Artists' books are books that are considered works of art in themselves. Often hand-made, they can be original one-offs or part of a limited edition. Linda's books are designed, hand-printed, sewn, folded and glued by the artist herself. To print the images she uses a hand-operated etching press or burnisher.
AMERICA - A PROPHECY, William Blake
With printed ecru cloth cover. The central linocut (printed on Somerset 300gsm paper) opens concertina style and shows the spirits of revolution rising up between two eagle feathers.
Linda has designed and hand-printed the end-papers with images of dragonflies which symbolise transformation.
The 8-page text is printed on Zerkall paper and concertina folded. There is an enveloped area made from the hand-printed Fabriano paper which holds the booklet.
The cloth-bound book closes with a traditional bone-clasp and ribbon.
Signed and dated on the top reverse of the print and on the booklet.
Size 19cm x 51cm when closed. 67cm x 51cm when open.

‘Song’, William Blake, 21.5cm x 11.5cm (21.5cm x 55cm when unfolded). Linocut image depicts a man and a woman lounging with roses, lilies, crown and hair. Cover depicts an object which resembles a cat’o nine tails or jester’s wand with a difference. Printed in grey on red Murillo paper. Letterpress. Edition size; 100. Price £120. 2001.
‘Dr. Faustus’, Christopher Marlowe. Linocut with folding 3-D bat in centre. Images of angel and one victim of Faustus with antlers. Extracts from the text from the good and evils angels. ‘A Fortress Set Amidst Angels’,(A Tribute to Cecil Collins) poem and essay by Linda Landers. Linocuts, letterpress & computer set type. (Type face for poem, colophon & title page; Bernard MT condensed). The essay originally published in Blake Journal. Envelope printed with a spiral 25cm x 45cm. Book, 39.5cm x 19.5cm. ‘Salome’, Oscar Wilde; A folding book which comes in a lined, red velvet slipcase, with ornamental detail. Cover measures; 42cm x 29cm, and the book opens out to 74cm x 74cm, with six folding flaps. Extracts from the text by Oscar Wilde are cut directly into the lino. Images are of Herod and his wife, Salome John the Baptist and the Head of John the Baptist are also linocuts. Some of the flaps are printed on the reverse to create a variation on the theme when folded. £750. Edition size; 15.2005.
‘Jerusalem’ (larger version). Centre opens out as woman with hair and child riding on hair with golden bow, cloud and sun images. (6 colours) Cover black Somerset with cut out print of a cosmic spiral (red and purple). Text printed in white. First page a small blue rabbit and a blue sword going into the word Blake. Next page two blue birds. Back page large grey rabbit. Measures 25.5cm x 19cm. Top page opens to 49.5cm and centre page opens to 54cm. ‘The Cat’, Poem by Linda Landers. The cat is seen lounging on the roof in two concertina folds which back onto each other. He holds the large fish which he has stolen. Both images are printed in five colours, the sky being a darker blue on one to suggest nightfall. Colophon etc. on reverse of the pages. Title on one of the folds doubles up as the poem’s opening line. Cover beige textured, with a ginger cat in light brown and the title in red letterpress. Approx 28.5cm x 26cm closed. ‘From Alice in Wonderland. Poem’, Blue cover with linocut of white rabbit with pocket watch. Title printed in silver letterpress. First page is the young man introducing the poem holding a deck of cards. Image printed in four colours and lettering in another colour. The inner page has an image of a pocket watch printed in silver, page opens upwards to reveal the poem printed in red and blue, and the image of a man doing a head stand with Alice sitting on his feet reading a book. The final page has the colophon. 2008. £170 editions rise 42. There is also a brown cover version of this book, with a collage of a bat and a tea tray hanging down and part of the poem on there. ‘The Raven’,* Edgar Allan Poe. This book was created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Poe’s birth. The full poem is printed on Somerset Paper and the book measures 46cm x 66cm x 4cm approx, on the first page is printed a raven standing on a bust, (this image is also printed on the cover but in silver), the next page the full poem is printed in black script. The central page opens to reveal a magnificent folding bird sculpted from card. Next page colophon and the words, 'May the Raven Always Inspire You', printed in red (which is a reference to the Raven's symbolism of regeneration and new life). ‘Israfel’,* Edgar Allan Poe. The colours have a richness of an illuminated manuscript. It measures 52cm x 38cm . Linocuts & collaged, showing the Angel Israfel with music coming out of his mouth. Title page (linocut), next page with an image of a quill pen with the name Israfel signed... Next page linocut os a braid of hair tied with a treble clef, next page a full colour angel playing a lute. Next page is full page lute which opens down the centre to reveal the poem by Edgar Allan Poe. The lute is covered in scroll work plant-like forms and flowers. On the verso is a boy on a star pointing at the heavens. Next page is an image of Israfel with music coming out of the mouth similar to cover. (The music scrolls around and one section ends in a plant like form with a fern at the end. Next is the colophon etc. The cover printed & collaged on ivory colourplan dust cover with plain cover underneath. £680. 2006
'The Shepherd’,* William Blake. (larger version) A slightly dreamy book approx 39cm x 29cm. A combination of print & watercolour. The book is printed in black on white with the cover having red and grey collage on a black cover. The collage pieces are also printed with fine lines in places. Sunrise in red collage. First page, image of a rising sun and title, water colour washes make up sun rays and reflections. Second page; poem printed from letterpress on Zerkall and tipped in with watercolour washes surrounding it. Third page; a staff in the ground with a star up above tinted with watercolour. Watercolour washes make up hills and sky.Next page is the image of the shepherd printed in black on white with watercolour tint. Next page; a tree with fruits. 'Infant Joy’,* William Blake (traditional format) The book measures approximately 30cm x 20cm, and consists of the following pages; Title page with image of bird. Poem printed between two angel wings. An image of an angel in the clouds, William Blake as a child in a cloud pointing at the angel (on the facing page). Clouds drifting. A dragon fly and clouds. A flower. A jester holding a leaf and a rattle. Colophon. Cover printed with image of a bird. The price is £550 due to the number of illustrations.
‘Sonnet 24’,* William Shakespeare with original spelling from the first folio. With sheet music (choral composition for several voices), Linda Landers. The cover is brown colour plan with two small linocut prints on the front. The title page has a linocut of an ink droplet with the title within it. The next page has the sonnet (in original spelling but different font) with a small wood engraving of a Gecko lizard and capital M. The centre page is a linocut depicting a quill pen writing Shakespeare's name onto a sheet of paper, above this is a linocut print of a piece of brocade cloth from the time. This section is printed in gold and then hand-coloured with watercolour. The musical score printed on acid free parchment paper is inserted inside a flap with a detail of masks printed on the front in red. there is also an additional Gecko print enclosed (signed separately and numbered, signature not shown on attached photo).Size when closed 32cm x 24cm approx. Parachute books and books in boxes
'De Profundis’, Christina Rossetti, & William Blake poem. The printed box measures, approx 10.3cm x 18cm x 3cm (and is made of heavy Zerkal Paper) and contains; One folded paper parachute (lightweight Zerkall paper) attached to a hand made figure of Felix Baumgartner. Each parachute in the edition is striped in a different colour. One paper with a small poem by William Blake printed on each side, this tear drop shaped paper represents the drogue chute. (the poems printed are two short poems with first lines; 'If you trap the moment before it's ripe' and 'He who binds to himself a joy’). One poem which is printed in pamphlet form. Printed on the cover with image of the sky diver and the surround is printed to coincide with the colour of the stripes on the parachute. The text explanation is printed inside the lid of the box. In an edition of ten but with each one having the variations as mentioned.£680. 2013
‘You Do Not Believe’‘, William Blake. Parachute book with a poem by William Blake 'You Do Not Believe' and poems by Linda Landers 'Man in Capsule' and 'I'm Coming Home Now' to commemorate Felix Baumgartner's leap from the edge of the atmosphere. Inspired by Felix Baumgartner's jump from the edge of space which took place in 2012. The envelope measures approx 31.5cm x 35 cm is printed with the image of a labyrinth/parachutist/angel wings in red and silver and contains the following; One circular parachute made of rice paper and printed on the top with the same image as above in green and blue. A poem by William Blake 'You Do Not Believe' printed in red on Zerkall paper with part of the parachute image printed in silver. A 156 line poem by Linda Landers, commemorating. The poem is printed in several colours. Some thread and weight to tie to the parachute should you wish assemble it and give it a try. Ten copies only, £347 (includes discount). 2013
‘A Return to Utopia’, is based on a performance piece. The book has a blue/grey cover with a cut out image of an iron gate in black, through which there are some leaves and the title printed. The book contains extracts from the text of the full performance. As the piece was inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland there are two paragraphs from the 'Tea Party' on the first page. There's also a print of a television with a spiral and mask (this is her way into Utopia).The first page opens upwards and also opens downwards to reveal the text, and the image is of a dog smoking a cigar and the inside page opens out to 74cm and shows seven masked people and a dog at a long table spread with food. The central print has at least 12 colours. The dog with cigar print is black with grey cigar smoke, and there is a folded black cat mask shape which reveals two blue eyes and another line of text underneath it. The text is printed in cobalt blue and light blue, with some in red. Closed the book measures 31cm x 25.5cm, and has organza covering the gaps in the gate. The edition size is 10. £545. 2014
‘The White Rabbit’, an extract from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The book measures approx 28cm x 19cm. Linocuts. Cover; white on grey acid free Canford card, with red and blue letterpress title etc. First page is a spiral page which has a red door at the centre, this represents the rabbit hole or journey. A white rabbit (printed in silver) is at the start of the run. Next page shows white rabbit seated in his chair, looking at his watch, waiting for Alice to arrive. She is seen spiralling through the tunnel towards him. Next is a doorway in blue, which opens onto an image of a drink, a cake, rabbit paw prints... and a golden key, printed on separate folds. The next image is the large Alice with a tiny cake.
On the next pages are text extracts from Alice's adventures in Wonderland... by Lewis Carol, and paw prints of the white rabbit. Then the colophon. Edition of 27. 2014
